HAWKS - BARNBURNER (2009)
There is definitely some Shorty / Jesus Lizard shit happening with these Atlanta noise rockers.
Pummeling, thudding bass, angular screeching guitars, and distorted, lumberjack vocals. Aggressive and complex. Brutal and refined. Like Bigfoot drinking fine wine and doing the waltz on hot coals. These guys have a bunch of newer releases that I will posting here shortly as well.
Army of Bad Luck 2009.

HAMMERHANDS - 1995 EP (2013)
2 cover songs. Smashing Pumpkins and PJ Harvey. But let that turn you off. These songs are sludgy, crushing and heavy, making them barely recognizable as cover songs. Clocking it around 14 minutes, you can grab the free downloads from their bandpage and put them on your ipod for your next yoga class. Do it!

ZEBRAS - ZEBRAS (2012)
Midwest Milwaukee/Madison WI synth-rock / post-rock / noise rock dudes. Has parts Brainiac, Milemarker, Camera Obscura (the San Diego noise band. Not the popular folk band). There's heavy parts. There's electronic, almost dancy parts. There's noisy parts too. The whole album flows seamlessly through different sounds. But in a good way.

SWEET PEA - CHICKS HATE WES (1996)
David Uskovich of legendary 90s noise rock band Distorted Pony's short-lived follow up band. This one release has layered, contorted guitars with heavy rhythms, and a full carpeting of thick, heavy bass sounds similar to Slug or anything David Sims (Jesus Lizard, Scratch Acid) does. A few songs reach 10 min of slow crawling, distorted thud thud thud.

GODHEADSILO / HAMMERHEAD SPLIT 7" (1993)
Split 7" between 2 noise rock powerhouses of the 90s. Hammerhead was more well-known at this point, with a record out on Amphetamine Reptile. The duo of Godheadsilo was just beginning to get their name out, releasing their debut record on Kill Rock Stars the next year.

SOFY MAJOR - IDOLIZE (2013)
IDOLIZE is french Noise Rock / Metal power trio SOFY MAJOR’s second album.
Recorded with the help of Dave Curran (Unsane, Pigs) you know its gonna crush you.
A mix of toxic sludge, stale beer, shattered dreams, hard work and perseverance.

CELLOS - STANDARD AND POOR (2013)
3 piece noise rock from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. 3 Song EP in the vein of Fight Amp, Kowloon Walled City and KEN mode. They have 2 full lengths on their Bandcamp page that are worth your attention as well.
LISTEN/BUY: THE ACCIDENT
SLUGHOG - GRIT (1995)
Really good mid-ninetys noise rawk. If Dr. Frankenstein made a monster using parts of Unsane, Tad and Killdozer, you would have one helluva scary monster running around terrorizing the town called Slughog. Heavy bass lines with growling vocals like an angry mob wielding torches and pitchforks. Goooooood.

BUMMER - MILK (2013)
Good noise rock schtuff from Kansas City. 4 song EP seems to be self released. Don't know much else about them. If old Helmet met Fight Amp, Ken Mode and Young Widows at a monster truck rally, this is what you'd get. Dude, they are harshing your mellow. Just so you know. That red gimp / bull outfit scares the hell outta me. Love it.
DL/LISTEN: MILK
JOHNBOY - PISTOLSWING (1993) & CLAIM DEDICATIONS (1994)
DL: PISTOLSWING
DL: CLAIM DEDICATIONS
Johnboy was a 90s band from Austin TX, who fit in the noise rock / math rock genre. Their sound was heavy, rhythmic and mostly instrumental with some occasional spoken and shouted vocals. Both of these records were on the Trance Syndicate label and have similar color palette in the cover art. Just saying.

ELEPHANT RIFLE - PARTY CHILD (2012) & I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE STILL ALIVE (2013)
This record is pretty awesome. Would have fit nicely in the late 80s / early 90s grunge thing...before grunge was a household name. But with an updated heavy, chaotic, noisy component. Some interesting keyboard and saxophones are sprinkled throughout, but overall there are some reminiscent early Melvins parts happening here and at times the vocals recall a young Kurdt Kobain mumbling, screaming and growling. Do yourself a favor and give this a bunch of listens.
Brand new digital version of new 7". 2 Songs. They want to raise enough coin to put out on wax. So everyone should buy a copy. Its $2. I'm down with that.

THE AUSTERITY PROGRAM - BLACK MADONNA (2007)
With a handful of EPs and singles, this is the only full length from this duo of noise rockers from NY. At first listen you could say they have a Big Black sound (only because of the drum machine) with heavier, math rock precision guitar riffs. Songs range from the 5-6 min mark, to 1 min frenzied burst, to a monster 14 min song to end out the album. Metal heads will dig this, but it definietly fits nicely into your noise rock flower bed.

BITS OF SHIT - CUT SLEEVES (2012)
Man, Homeless records is punching in hours on the noise rock / punk clock. Lots of solid releases on this Aussie label as I'm discovering. Including this one....Bits of Shit and their debut record Cut Sleeves. So if part Black Flag and part Wire with Johnny Lydon or Bon Scott wailing away on vocals, and then going bonkers, you would be pretty well introduced. Sans a handshake. And how can you go wrong with an song called Intro as track 12? You can't. Grab a six pack, put on your AC/DC shirt, give this a listen and buy a record. Homeless Records (2012).

EX WIVES - FUCKING DUTCH +2 (2009)
DL: FUCKING DUTCH
DL: STAVE / DIKTAT
DL: COLLECTION OF SHIT
So you can tell right off the bat these guys from Glasgow went to the Steve Albini / Shellac school of noise rock. And thats not a bad thing. These 3 releases are short singles, and combined could make one cool, solid record. You can download them from Bandcamp, put 'em in yer favorite media player, and if played all together, will sound like one full album. Neat. Apparently they are in the middle of recording some new stuff too. More Neat. Fucking Dutch and Stave/Diktat are from 2009. Collection of Shit is from 2008.

SEWERS - HOISTED (2013)
Their description (and probably better than any witty banter I could cook up):
Bottom-feeder band, Sewers combine the cunning of the Country Teasers, the wonk of The Fall and a Killdozer scrawl. It’s a stew of Australia’s finest deadly exports like King Snake Roost, Lubricated Goat, and feedtime. Sewers ain’t afraid to piss in the pond, keeping the Tasmanian tradition of inbreeding alive. LOVE 666 - AMERICAN REVOLUTION (1995)
Oh such a nice, calm, 'Americana' scene. A dude smoking a stogie in some mid-west fields of wheat. Probably some good Tom Petty/John Mellencamp style tunes. Then BAM! Loud, distorted, layers of fuzz rock n roll laying waste to that stogie, field and straw hat. One of the best bands from the 90s, that didn't really get noticed and lumbered right under the noise rock radar. Haze knew it. Thats why he put 'em on his Amphetamine Reptile Records Roster back in 1995.

BEAUTIFUL MOTHER - VANILLA (2011)
Beautiful Mother are/(were?) a noise rock band from Chicago and from what I know features members of Like Rats and Weekend Nachos. This was a cassette release of 50 and sounds like Rusted Shut, Grids, or Drunkdriver clanging around in a cement mixer. Bruising good.

CACAW - GET A BRAIN 12" (2010)
Now defunct, bombastic loud, heavy with screamy vocals and a noisy, dirty Amrep feel. Alright! Not Alright! about the defuct part, but Alright! the other stuff. From Chicago. Limited Hand-silk screened jackets on cool marbly vinyl. Permanent records 2010.

HEALTH PROBLEMS - COUNTERPRODUCTIVE (2013)
Good noisy, frenzied cassette release from Seattle's Health Problems. Songs have range... some faster, spastic punk rants with an early Halo of Flies sound, and slower creeping bass with talking lyrics ala a number of early Touch and Go bands. Spastic vocals move from growling and moaning, to reverb laden screaming and talking, similar to Mike Hard of God Bullies, David Yow from The Jesus Lizard, or even Lux Interior from The Cramps. I hope these guys do a full, proper record release. Hand-numbered, hand-stamped cassette. Full color, 3-panel J-card with lyrics. Limited to 100 copies.

LEATHER - THREE 7" SINGLES
So for some reason when I hear the name Leather, I think they should be a Judas Priest cover band. But these Philadelphia, PA's noisy rocking punks are anything but close to Judas Priest. I mean I like Priest and all. But these guys are cool in a non-Priest kinda way. Dirty, gritty punk with a pissed off mix of fuzzy noise, feedbacking guitars and vocals yowling away franticly. Rocka Rolla dudes!

CUNTZ - SOLID MATES
Aussies second record of 2013 strapped down. Man thats alot of noise to crank out. And quantity over quality does not apply here either. Solid kicks to the head with boot-fulls of Flipper, Venom P. Singer, Pissed Jeans, and Jesus Lizard. Yep. All those guys. Bonzer.

UNWOUND - REPETITION (1996) + 2 SINGLES (1992 - 1993)
I feel like Unwound needs no intro or description. But the kids are getting younger and are finding 'new' stuff. And every once in a while you run into someone who is like "Unwound? No, don't know 'em". Whaaaaaaaa?!?! Sooooo, while I still care about giving band descriptions for blog purposes:
From the Olympia WA area, Unwound made alot of noise and recorded a bunch of albums and singles. They are know for heavy bass lines, unusual feedback-frenzy guitars, dissonant and angular. Repetition is the bands 5th record. Kill Rock Stars 1996

JACK 'O' NUTS - RAW CANDLE VOTE 7" (1993)

COLISEUM & YOUNG WIDOWS SPLIT (2006)
Both of these bands like doing split singles. They've done a bunch of them, which really makes it hard to organize in my 7" boxes at home. Do I file under Coliseum? Young Widows?
Bands from Louisville? Covers with red and grey?
Limited single (of course). 4 tracks total. 2 from each band. Coliseum rips through 2, short, in your face aggressive bombardments. The 2 songs from Young Widows are heavy, disjointed, noisy and dirty.

MULTICULT - OPEN FIRE / THE COSTUME 7" +2 (2011)
These Baltimore noise rockers...well...rock! The cover has a sparkler, but this single is like a whole fireworks display gone awry and haywire. 2 songs on the vinyl but there are extras for you here. (See who loves you?) The digital version has 2 old songs reworked. Multicult multiscore!

PRINCESS - SELLING SULFER (2013)
So this not only has cool artwork but sounds pretty damn good too. Its heavy, spastic, and mathy. There's some Unsane in there. Some Ken Mode. Some High on Fire. They're from Seattle and they say they will destroy you as politely as possible. Cool...noisy rockers and nice dudes.

UNSANE - COEXTINCTION RECORDINGS 1 (2010)
Weird, no blood on this cover. Looks like a ultra-lounge cover actually, only where's the coctail/lobrow/martini art?
I could go for a martini right now.
So these songs aren't loungy by any means. They kick, punch and pummel like they've had way too many whiskeys instead of martinis.
3 song digital release as part of their monthly artist spotlight back in 2010.
Coextinction is an online music label, created by members of Unsane and Pigs. A pretty decent roster for the end of 2010 through 2011. Nothing in 2012 and one release so far in 2013.

BIG'N - SPARE THE HORSES (2011)
I wonder if the title comes from talking about horse-flies. Those mothers bite hard! I feel sorry for the horses. Horse-flies would actually be a good name for a hard-biting band actually. Probably already taken though.
Lumbering from the 90's Chicago noise rock scene, Spare The Horses is their first release of new shit since 1999. (Yeah I know this came out 2 years ago.) Pissed off, abrasive and coarse. Chaotic and hectic but controlled. 4 songs biting you on your horsey legs. African Tapes 2011.
