WHITE WALLS - KEVIN EP (2013)

(Partially lifted from the bands description)
The newest 4 -song 12" from Ohio's White Walls has the band revisiting and reinventing a song that was released on tape a few years ago. Accompanying "Kevin" are two new songs that find the band at their peak. So their description is Black Flag, Shellac, and Nirvana, but I think they just sound like a twisted Jesus Lizard. And JL is already twisted from the start. They also do a pretty kickass cover of  The Pixies "Bone Machine" that you'll find satisfying.

DOSES - DOSES (2014)

2 piece noise punk band from Southern California. But instead of the guitar/drum or bass/drum combo, we get a guitar/bass combo with a drum machine. So you would think you would get a Big Black or Godflesh vibe from the drum machine, but not really. Of the 8 songs, song 6, "Reason to Live" is the only one that has a Big Black-ish sound. But the remaining sound more dirgy punk. Like Black Flag or Flipper. Maybe some godheadSilo too. They say they don't want you to pay for this digital download, but you should buy their record from Going Underground. Do it!

KITTENS - TIGER COMET (1995)

Three piece noise executioners from Winnipeg Manitoba Canada. These guys shuck around the heavy, chaotic, energetic buzzsaw guitars similar to Vaz, Melvins and Guzzard like a syrup fight in a waffle factory... with psychotic, distorto crazed vocals like a man who just chugged 3 entire bottles of said syrup. Sounds like a sugar buzzing blast eh? Napkins not required.

HEY COLOSSUS - HAPPY BIRTHDAY (2008)

Deranged 4th album by Hey Colossus. Heavy and sludgy, bottomed out, feedback drenched, doom noise. A healthy mix of raging riffs, and spaced out fuzz-o-rama. Nothing subtle about this album. It will punch you in the gut, throw a bucket on your head and hammer away, while volting your ass up with jumper cables on your extremities. Sounds like fun eh? Never know until you try.

HALF GOON - TERRORIZER (2013)

Terrorizer is 7 solid slabs of sludge punk from Long Beach, CA's Half Goon and cruises by quickly. With driving guitars, thick bass, and a schizo sounding singer, the songs weave mostly mid-paced through different time changes.
How to make a Half Goon cake? Take a sponge middle that sounds like bands on Brutal Panda, covered with icing that Hydra Head bands make and sprinkled with Touch and Go toppings. All topped with echo-y guitar stuff that reminds me of Young Widows. Rumbling and yummy.

NO ANCHOR - THE GOLDEN BRIDGE (2012)

Lots of Aussie noise here at staticfraction lately. I posted the new Dead / No Anchor split 7" here. And from what I understand, No Anchor will be kicking out some new shit with Amrep in the near future.
Harshed out sludge noise punk made by three otherwise well-adjusted men.

KUNG-PAO / TUCKER SPLIT 7" (1997)

Good mid 90s heavy/dirty/noise rock for your ear canals. This is a split 7" from Kung-Pao and Tucker,
one song each. I don't know much about Tucker, but Kung-Pao has 2 other records that came out after this. Heavy riffage, and sludge chuggin'... like a dirty, beat-up truck hauling thirsty construction workers down a dirt road to the next bar fight...early Helmet meets early Tad meets any Killdozer.
(Maduro Records 1997)

HOOVES NOT HANDS - SWOLLEN (2010)

Don't let the cute teddy bear fool ya! This record will tear your head off and throw you to bloodthirsty dogs. Heavy, noisy, off-kilter rumblings ala Unsane, Ken Mode, Coliseum, Janitor Joe. Its not the most original thing I've heard, but its still makes your noggin rock back and forth. This would fit pretty good on a Learning Curve Recordings roster methinks.

MULTICULT - SPACES TANGLED (2012)

I posted a single from these guys a while back here. This is a full-length of more of that same noise rawk with a mix of abrasive technical math-rock and pounding chaotic rhythm. If you like Shellac, Cherubs, Arcwelder...that kinda schtuff...you'll like this.

MUTTON - MUTTON (2013)

Those Aussies can sure tear things up. At first listen, 4-piece Mutton has that Scratch Acid, Pissed Jeans, Jesus Lizard thing down. Which is cool. I'm into all of those bands. And chances are you are too. But with additional listens I could hear some other influences creeping in. Some New Bomb Turks, Drunks With Guns, Mule on certain tracks. Again, I'm cool with those bands as well. Dig.

STEEL POLE BATH TUB - COCKTAIL SUGGESTIONS (1994)

Well how could I not do a '2-for' with Steel Pole Bath Tub. This is a 6 song EP that was released as a 10" record, and included an actual 'cocktail list'. This was also produced by Steve Albini if that matters.

STEEL POLE BATH TUB - TULIP (1990)

What the hell is going on? I can't believe this is the first post from Steel Pole Bath Tub. I should be strung up by my spurs and given a 1000 lashings.

STEEL POLE BATH TUB. 4 words together that will give you weird google search results. But this 3-piece from the Bay (orig from Bozeman MT) made a clambering and pronounced lump on the noise rock forehead in the 90s. And lots of bands have been smacking themselves silly trying to re-create this kind of protrusion, only producing small, itchy red spots. Because of the timeframe of the 90s, when everyone was trying to be the next big post-Big Black band, SPBT got a little lost in the engulfing brew, not breaking out as big as they should have. But I feel they are more important now than ever. Their career includes a slew of singles, lots of cover songs, comp tracks and an 'unlistenable' record that the majors tossed back in their teeth.

They launched a handful of full-lengths…blanketing heavy, rattling thunks, textured, sonic walls of experimental racket, layers of distorted samples and sounds, all coated with sweet n sour dark humored lyrics. Tulip was always one of my favs, so it only seems appropriate to make it the first Steel Pole post here at staticfraction.

GIGANTO - FUEGO AMIGO (2013)

Ok I give up on trying to embed Bandcamp players. I've tried multiple platforms, browsers and OS versions. So you're just gonna have to click over from the link below to check out the tunes until I figure this crap out.

And speaking of clicking over, you're gonna want to do that with this band here. Heavy ass, instrumental stoner noise from Madrid that will punt your ass sideways. There is definitely some Hot Snakes sounding guitar action built around a heavy, early Helmet or Torche crunching bass thud. The instrumental structure kinda reminded me of parts Karma to Burn or even Kyuss. Ripping and shredding...Hell yeah!

LAW$UITS - FUTURE FAILURE (2013)

Ok so I know there are a number of blogs out there who have shared this, and at the risk of being redundant, I am too. The fine folks over at Shiny Grey Monotone posted this, and I'm sharing this too 'cuz its really good. It balls out, fucking rocks actually! It needs to be heard and totally fits in line with this here blog. Without comparing bands, its just a kickass mix of everything you love about Touch and Go, Amrep, Dischord and Kill Rock Stars.

Apparently they had a free download at Bandcamp, but it ran out. They are updating the link shortly, but until then, you can listen and/or snag it for your very own down below. Spread the word!!

SILVERFISH - SILVERFISH EP (1989)

Here's the last "2-for" for a few posts. Got some other one-off shit to share. But I like the idea of the '2-for', especially for older stuffs...and plan to keep it going. Hope you will enjoy too.
So this 4 song short blast of noisy, heavy on the fuzzed out, crunchiness was released on Wiiiji Records in 1989. This was their 2nd release and does that trick where you think your speakers or headphones are disintegrating. Yeah!

SILVERFISH - FAT AXL (1990)

Female fronted racket from the UK, this record is bombastic, fuzzy and noisy, with aspects of industrial thrown in. This was their first full length record and has a lil Scratch Acid, a lil Cop Shoot Cop, a lil Killdozer. The record almost sounds like 2 eps. The first half being slower and lunging with off- kilter parts throwing you around like a cement mixer. While the second half tears thru chaotic and ripping, punkrawk with tons of flailing guitar feedback.
Originally released on French label Wiiija Records, was later picked up by Touch and Go for the fine US folks.

DEAD PRESENTS: KILLER BANDS WE MET ON TOUR IN USA (2013)

Hey...whadda ya know, a "3-for"... of sorts. More stuff from Dead. Not music from them, but a compilation of bands they toured with in 2013. There's bands like Federation X, Rabbits, and Helms Alee to name a few. But some of the bands I haven't heard before and hopefully you'll discover some cool shit as well.
For some reason I couldn't get the stupid Bandcamp player to embed on this page. Not sure why its being such a royal pain in the arse. So you have to click over to listen. But you'll want to see the band list and track list anyways. Thanks Dead. This is...as you said...KILLER!

DEAD - IDIOTS (2012)

As promised...continuing the "2-for" thing.... This is one of the bands on the split from the last post...Dead. A 2-piece who spit out a range of slow, grumbling and chunking along, to spastic, gritty explosive noisepunk in the vein of godheadSilo, Big Biz and Lightning Bolt. They feature members of Fire Witch, Fangs of a TV Evangelist and more.

KILLDOZER - SNAKEBOY (1985)

Ok. As I mentioned in my last post...more Killdozer. I'm a man of my word, and I deliver.
The last record from the previous post was towards the end of their career, this is towards the beginning. Their 2nd record to be exact.
And I'm gonna try this "2-for" thing for a few posts.  2 posts by bands, to get more releases into your sweaty, greasy little hands.

KILLDOZER - SONET '96 7" (1996)

Slow moving and grinding. Disturbing, black humor lyrics. Demented distortions of cover songs. You know... Killdozer. From Madison, WI. This 2-song single, features a Hank Williams song, and was one of their last records, before splitting up in 1996. More Killdozer needs to be added to this blog. Not Sure why this is the first time they are gracing the halls of staticfraction, but they will soon become familiar regulars.

PART CHIMP - THRILLER (2009)

Loud-ass, heavy, gargantuan sound. English noise mongers Part Chimp tears up a distortion drenched mix of Torche, Boris, My Bloody Valentine, Floor, and Melvins. Badass cover art too.
This record will twirl your head like the feeling you have the day after discovering a full, dirty ashtray, a floor full of empty beer cans, and an empty bottle of whiskey, scattered throughout a dingy motel room with a loaded gun on the dresser and a gymbag full of drugs on the floor on hot and humid summer afternoon....or otherwise known as an average weekend.

THE MEN - WE ARE THE MEN (2009)

So these guys are doing pretty well making a name for themselves, their newer stuff is definitely more 'friendly' to the masses. But this is their first, 4 song ep, and its raw, over-distorted, blown-out, ear-blastin' ass-kickin noise punk rock.
The vinyl of this was super limited... 300 or something crazy like that. Since its tough to find, I thought I'd bring a big fat smile to your face so big, your ears will be on top of your head.

NEGATIVE PRESS - LONG HAUL (2013)

There were so many great releases last year, I forgot about this, and can't believe I didn't get to posting and sharing this with you. My bad, sorry friends. This record came out of nowhere really, and it kicks all kinds of ass. White ass, brown ass, black ass, pink ass, red ass, blue ass, purple ass....like I said, all kinds.
Dirgy, schizophrenic, ugly noise punk from the Pacific North West in the vein of Pissed Jeans, Guzzard or Drunks With Guns. The third song, 'The Smoker' recalls Young Widows or early Touch and Go-y stuff. Neat-o.

YOUNG GINNS - YOUNG GINNS (1993)

So this was an indie / punk / noise rock project formed by members of Unwound and The Nation Of Ulysses. Badass right? They were digging the punkrawk sounds of SST Records and figured that if young writers were called "Young Ginsburgs" then they'd call themselves "Young Ginns" (in reference to SST head honcho Greg Ginn). Clever eh? If you know Unwound, Nation of Ulysses and stuff from SST, then chances are you know what you're getting here. This link is the full discography, but I like the artwork from the 7".

I DINOSAURI - ██████ (2012)

So I've been trying to embed Bandcamp players within my posts when possible. To keep you, the fine readers and visitors from having to click around so much. That's just the kind of service I offer. Well for some reason I couldn't get the player to work on this, so you gotta go to the page. And its a free download anyway so you're gonna want to take your lazy asses over there anyway.

So this is a noisy, instrumental duo from Italy, that do straight ahead, short blasts of garage rock. Some cool shit that reminds me of a mix of Hella, or Don Caballero, or Gay Witch Abortion, and less chaotic than Lighting Bolt. You can't beat a title like that either. Rectangle shape.

DL: I DINOSAURI

JUMBO'S KILLCRANE - CARNAVAL DE CARNE (2003)

Sludgy, head-crushing heaviness oozing from this trio from Lawrence, KS. This is their 3rd record (for those keeping score). After this, they added a 4th member and did a record called Slow Decay which spans more of the doom metal side, and seems to pop up more frequently when searched the interwebs. But this here record, is less doomy, and more sludgy and could share a padded room with bands like Buzzov-en, Eyehategod or Kowloon Walled City. Their commercial would go something like this: Get your doom outta my sludge. Get your sludge out of my doom.

ROOMRUNNER - IDEAL CITIES (2013)

I don't post alot of noise rock that is on the 'pop' side. Roomrunner is from Baltimore Maryland so they say. They're poppier, high-energy indie noise, which is different for Fan Death Records but this could totally fit on Sub Pop. The heavy, distorted and produced sound with 'singy-type' vocals reminds me of what Torche does and my first thoughts reminded me of a 90s band called Smile. Along with Smile, Metz meets Torche meets Nirvana.

JANITOR JOE - BIG METAL BIRDS (1993)

So I mentioned Gnomes of Zurich recently HERE. And I said that they were the product of this band, Janitor Joe. So how could I mention them, and not post 'em right? That wouldn't be very fitting blog etiquette behaviour....
Soooo, Janitor Joe was 3 individuals from Minneapolis who made a lot of rawkus in the mid-90s. The majority of their records were put out on Amrep (all but one single actually). This is an essential and classic record for you youngsters just getting into noise rock. Or for those of you who just completely blew it and missed the boat...ok you made a mistake. I understand. Here's your chance to redeem yourselves.

DREAMDECAY - NVNVNV (2013)

Happy 2014!

So I'm starting off the new year with another post to 'right the ship' with this blog. Again, I posted a link to their Bandcamp page earlier in the year. LISTEN HERE. But this record was one of my favs from 2013 and is too good to not say something about it and give it the full post it deserves. Lunging, murky and experimental noise rock from Seattle with lots of distorted echo and delay...ala parts Swans, My Bloody Valentine and Scratch Acid.
