RUSTED SHUT - REHAB (2004)

If you're a fan of over-blown-out, abrasive, face melting, riff destroying noise rock like Brainbombs, Drunks With Guns, Twin Stumps, Drunkdriver....Then this is for you. Recently issued on vinyl for the first time for those of you into that. Oof.

SPERM DONOR - ACCIDENTAL INCEST (2013)

So I gotta admit... I heard the name and was instantly curious. Band, album title and all. This roarin' rekid by some fine fellas outta New Haven, Connecticut is kind of all over the place throughout the duration actually. But in a good way and totally works.

It starts off with a couple of off-kilter Touch & Go/Amrep influenced noise-rockers similar to Vaz, Shellac or Young Widows. In the middle it slows to a crawl with some trudging, doomy sludge. And the last third bursts into hyper-speed with some faster punk jams that give nod to Black Flag and Nomeansno. The whole thing wraps with a slow, 5 minute beast that the Melvins would appreciate.

I was doing some other things during the listen of this album, and a few times had to stop to make sure I was listening to the same record. But after I was assured that I was, I was quite satisfied.

HALO OF FLIES - MUSIC FOR INSECT MINDS (1997)

You know when you start pulling out and playing your 7" records on a Saturday or a Tuesday night? You have a some drinks and a shit-eating grin while you're flipping the vinyl. And soon enough you soon find yourself with record sleeves scattered all over the floor, a 3/4 empty bottle of rye sitting on your lap and a glaze over your face. When you finally get too lazy to flip another record over, you put this on...

Halo of Flies. Compilation of of all their old singles in one neat little package. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. Anyone seen my pants?

NEARLY DEAD - NEARLY DEAD (2014)

Some killer noise rawk that fits right at home here at staticfraction. Nearly Dead is a Brainbombs tribute from Victoria, British Columbia.... heavy, ugly and grimey. Everything you want in your scuzz rock. Trudging and lumbering, fuzzed out riff goodness lays down a base like burnt tar, with a Cows influenced trumpet combusting, and spoken garbling vocals smeared over the top like grease-fire laden vapors.

They have piss-yellow vinyl on the site, and they play funerals.

REFRESH REFRESH REFRESH

So I've had a few comments / people saying they don't have access to files, or getting 'Permission Denied' alerts or things along those lines. I'm not sure why these alerts pop up.

I want discovering new music as well as the archive here at staticfraction to be easy...No Passwords on any DLs or unzipping. So what I've told others and same goes for future similar issues...

REFRESH THE LINK PAGE !

That should reset the link and do the trick!
If you discover a rare dead link, or something not working... please let me know so I can fix it ASAP.

Thanks!!

DEAD AIR - DEAD AIR (2013)

Gonna be super lazy here. This is just the description from the website. But its a good 'un:

Dead Air is a Providence trio launching burnt-on, baked on slobber straight from the main vein of a grease clogged heart. From the ashes of primal reducers, the Black Clouds, Dead Air uses a two guitar and drum tool set to build a double tailed fuck beast huffin’ pure six pack grunt. Brings to mind pill poppers/school skippers like the U-men or the Cherubs in attack with additional double helix sniff. If this brand of punch fits your gravy bowl, sling the tankard back and chug till the sun is erased.

THE CUTTHROATS 9 - ANGER MANAGEMENT (2001)

You like Unsane? Of course you do. That's like saying do you like peanut butter? I mean everyone likes peanut butter, right? Unless you have a peanut allergy. Anywho, Chris Spencer and Dave Curran are 2 of the fellows behind the genius of Unsane, and on the side when they're not doing Unsane, they go fishing, and do other bands that sound pretty damn similar to Unsane. The Cutthroats 9 is one of those side projects.

I'm mentioning them because well, a) they need to be on this blog. But also, b) they just finished a new record and are about to do a mini tour of 5 shows on the west coast. So in excitement and anticipation for the new, here's some of the old.... By the way, I don't actually know if they fish. If you catch one of the shows you can ask 'em what kind of lures they prefer.

POWERTAKEOFF - THIS IS LATE (2014)

powertakeOff is a relatively new, 2-piece from Concord, NC / Richmond, VA. And features Gus Engstrom, formerly of Grids. Loud, crushing, slow, and heavy and thick as an elephant in molasses noise rock/sludge racket.... And as they put it, really good at beating a riff into the ground... with purpose!

They had a song on the 4-track Butchers Waltz comp with Seawhores and Gay Witch Abortion. Pretty good company I'd say. And I do say. They're also on the upcoming Held Hostage 2 comp from Learning Curve.

BREADWINNER - THE BURNER (1994)

Man the 90s churned out some good stuff. Breadwinner was an incredible 3 piece instrumental math/noise rock outfit that sounded like the band members played with more than 2 arms and legs. This is essentially a compilation of 3 singles they put out between 1990 and 1994.

MANIAK COP - SPLIT AND MARZIPAN (2014)

DL: MARZIPAN

DL: BAKE SALE

So yesterday I posted Grizzlor. Which I just randomly stumbled across. While I was freefalling from the tumble down, I also discovered these guys, Maniak Cop (from L.A.) who are apparently doing a split with Grizzlor. These are bandcamp links to just 2 songs for now, but they kick ass and remind me of newer noise rock ala Hawks, Blacklisters or Whores. Can't wait for more.

GRIZZLOR - WE'RE ALL JUST ALIENS (2014)

3-piece fuzz noise-rock sludge from New Haven, Connecticut. Don't know much else about these guys. I went to their Bandcamp page, I noticed a song called Drinking Blows and I was like, "What's all this nonsense?!?" As I listened and was pleasantly surprised by the chaotic and sloppy nastiness that reminded me of early Amrep bands like Cows or Halo of Flies, mixed with some Wire and Pissed Jeans. Also, any cover art with the Metaluna Mutant scores big points with me. Cool, I'm in. For all 6 tracks.

BRAIN BANGER - MUNSONED EP (2010)

So I could give you the standard 'ol, "This is a 5 song EP from this 3 piece outta Louisville KY featuring members of Young Widows, Breather Resist and Black Cross." And then follow up with typical descriptions like "Powerful vocals, tight drums and heavy riffs which combine the 90's rock sound with some influences from 70's punk and metal"... Eh, descriptions, reviews, blah blah blah. right?
I'm posting it here on the blog, so its (hopefully) obviously worth the finger press and mouse click to acquire / listen / enjoy. Do you really need a whole description?

C'mon. The real no-brainer here (...ha. I didn't even plan that) is getting this is just for the Woody Harrelson reference from King Pin. You'll be munsoned if you don't add this to your collection right now.

LOVE AND NAPALM COMPILATION (1993)

Badass compilation of mid 90s noise rock featuring Cherubs, Ed Hall, Johnboy, Pain Teens, Crust and Drain. Just like it says on the cover.
If there was a Noise Rock Hall of Fame, all of these bands would be inducted.  Actually, he wont admit it, but Paul Stanley was a huge Ed Hall fan.

VAZ / DEAD SPLIT 7" (2014)

This is a soon to be released split 7" from 2 of the best noise rock gunslingers doing it today. Dead and Vaz did a tour, swam and ate curry together back in 2012 and what came out of it was swimmers ear and earaches, wrinkled fingers, and gassy, smelly vans (more so than normal).
But what also came out of it was this collaboration. Cool. No need to wait 30 minutes after eating to listen, and no heartburn after. Well...maybe a little.

Ooooh. New noise rock from one of the best bands doing it today. Atlanta's Hawks.

So the 'official' release of this is later in April. I only hope there is some vinyl to toss money to.

FAKE LIMBS - THE POWER OF PATRICIAN UPBRINGING (2013)

Fake Limbs are not a noise rock quartet from Chicago. They definitely do not drink from the Chicago fountain of rock, and for sure they don't have any parts that sound similar to Jesus Lizard, Tar, Pissed Jeans or Rye Coalition. They almost never blast thru hefty 70s rock riffs mixed with mathy time changes, screeching feedback, whumping bass, bombastic drums, and ungracious spastic and perverse vocal spitting. I did not find this album on repeat for days after the first listen, and why would I even think of highly recommending this to you.

BTW, this was written while engulfed in flames inside my fur covered bath tub while licking my fourth left eye.

BIG'N / OXES SPLIT (1999)

Ok Ok. I fell for the April Fools joke with the Melvins single...well played. Ha ha. Guess I'll just have to post a real Melvins single shortly to make up for it.
So let's get to a real post for now. Big'N and Oxes split from back in 1999. That was before everyone had iPhones or even personal cell phones for that matter. Hell, I didn't even have a computer.
