TRANSFIXR - TINCTURE (2014)

Its hot outside. I love it. I've been craving a big 'ol ice cream sunday.
Transfixr is a killer band from Austin, Tx.
And they're like a big ice cream sunday mix of Big'n, KEN mode, Unsane, and Season To Risk
shoved in your face. With lots of peanuts and hot fudge gooed on top. Mmmmm.

DROPOUTS - INTO FOAM (2012)

One of those bands that you say to yourself, damn that drummer is good.
Rapid-fast at times. But not always. Complex throughout...with lots of changes and fills.
Like I said..damn.
For the most part, Dropouts are heavy, and loud, hardcore style noise, but the songs weave from that to slower, almost 70s rock jams and stoner guitar parts, with some underlying math structures.
This is from 2012. Not sure what's up with them these days. I'm digging this. You should too.
(Self released - 2012)

THE JESUS LIZARD - PEEL SESSION (1991-92)

Did you know that David Yow can take a piss while walking and not get any on his pants.
He said it’s great if you have to pee and you also happen to be on a really long, straight walk, because you can look back and see the duration of your journey.
Your welcome.
Oh and 8 songs here. You can pee while you listen to them.
(Peel Sessions - 1991/1992)

SO STRESSED - THE UNLAWFUL TRADE OF GRECO-ROMAN ART (2015)

Here's a little ditty for ya...some great stuff from a band called So Stressed from Sacramento, CA.
They play solid, buzzsaw ripping and post-hardcore influenced noise rock assault.
Pretty cleaned up and polished sounding, but ready to hand you your daily ass whooping.

Live shit Fridays. And also since I've been on a Pigs kick.
This is a decent sounding show. Its a little rough, but kinda takes you back to the days of bootleg tapes.
C'mon its fucking punk rock, its not supposed to sound perfect.
Good set. 39 minutes. All songs but one come off You Ruin Everything.
Oh and again, I'm lazy. This is one long track.

PIGS - YOU RUIN EVERYTHING (2012)

Since I posted that Pigs EP on the last post, figured I should throw their full length up as well.
Also, they have a new album thats due out soon, that should pummel all kinds of ear canals.
And just to fix my lack of info...in addition to Dave Curran and Jim Paradise, the 3rd member of Pigs is Andrew Schneider, formerly of Slughog!! 3 bigs whollops for ya!!

STAR PIMP - TREASURE TRAIL (1992)

Deranged mid 90s noise rock from Star Pimp.
Experimental, weird, bizarro and fucked up. In a good way of course...
Kinda similar to Steel Pole Bath Tub and Alice Donut, only with female vocals.
(Boner / Tupelo Records - 1992)

DL: TREASURE TRAIL

XANAX - DEMOS (2013)

NEW TURKS - NEW TURKS EP (2014)

Lots of black cover art in the last few posts. Not on purpose.
New Turks is a 2-piece rock combo from Richmond, Virginia that make a lot of heavy, low-end, ruf 'n gruff, chugga-chugga racket. I hate to always compare 2-piece bands to other 2-piece bands like, Lightning Bolt, Dead, godheadSilo...but the formula kinda lends to that. But if it ain't broke...
4 songs that kick you to the dirt.
(Hand to Mouth Records - 2014)

DL: NEW TURKS

SLICES - HOME INVASION 7" (2009)

Well since I just mentioned Slices (Philadelphia, Pa), in that last post, figured I may as well throw some up as well. A crushing noise punk 7" with 5 songs...total clocking time under 7 minutes.
Surely you have 7 minutes to spare, even with short attention spans. Right?...What was I talking about?
(Home Invasion Records - 2009)

DL: HOME INVASION

DAMAGES - INDIGNATION (2012)

Post-hardcore, noise punk schtuff from Damages (Vancouver, British Columbia).
Brutal, hefty and bashing. Definitely don't want to play this at a kids party...Or maybe you do...
Recommended if you're into Slices, Shaved Women, His Hero is Gone type-o-hubub.
(React! Records - 2012)

BUMMER - SPANK (2015)

New 6 song thingy from Olathe, Kansas' Bummer.
I've featured these guys on the blog before with a great release HERE.
This continues with heavy, sludgy, noise punk... leaving a trail of red, swollen and bruised ass-cheeks, much like KEN mode, Fight Amp, and Black Cobra at a bondage party. Bring out the Gimp!
(High Dive Records - 2015)

LIVE AT EMO'S VOL 2 - #2 THIS PLACE SUCKS (1997)

This is a 7" that was part of a live series from Austin, TXs, Emo's.
The series seemed average at the time, but now seems like a great archive. I wasn't into most of the bands selected, but this one in particular stands out because it has both Steel Pole Bath Tub and Unsane. Goddamn! Gomez is the 3rd band of the 3 songs here. Eh.
Decent sound quality. If yer a fan of SPBT and/or Unsane...then you'll want this.

- Steel Pole Bath Tub - Soul Cannon
- Unsane - Alleged
- Gomez - Screech

(No Lie Music - 1997)

LIFE IN VACCUUM - 5 (2014)

Ok I have a bunch of new stuff that I want to share on this crazy blog, and always have a ton of old stuff, but both my work life and personal life is taking some crazy turns and getting nuttier than a squirrel turd.
My life may not allow the kind of devotion and attention that I would like to have for the blog, but I definitely plan to keep it going. So some of the writing, description and...ahem... 'review' type rants, or whatever you call what I do around here...may get shortened. Just keep in mind, if its on the blog with hardly a description...go on and check it out anyway. Hopefully you know what you're getting at this blog by now.

That being said...
Here's some cool post-hardcore/mathy noise punk from 'Life in Vacuum' from Waterloo, Ontario.
One could say they could hear a mix of Nation of Ulysses, Unwound, Fugazi, Circus Lupus.
And I think you'll agree. 2 bandcamp links below.

FUN - ZU-PA! (2007)

Damn. I wonder how I miss this stuff sometimes.
Just discovered these fellers. Maybe I was thrown off by the name...Fun.
Sheesh...isn't there like 100 bands called Fun?
Well this isn't any of the many indie/alt rock bands by any means.

This band Fun, from Helsinki, Finland knock you on your ass, with destroying, noise rock like Jesus Lizard, Hawks, and Throat thudding and kicking around like lawnmower blades stuck in a sandbox.

HAMMERHEAD - EVIL TWIN (1993)

Probably the best Hammerhead release. 7 songs all taken from singles. This shit is hard to beat.
I had to post some Hammerhead cuz...well...its Hammerhead.
But also because of the Amrep Bash 15 fest going on in Minneapolis this weekend.
Wish I could go. Guess I'll just sit home in my underwear with a cold 6 pack and listen to the bands in my living room. Sad mug.

GREENMACHINE - D.A.M.N. + 3 (1998 / 2003)

Originally released on Man's Ruin back in 1998, this monster gets the reboot with 3 extra songs in 2003. Greenmachine is/was a Japanese sludgy/doomy/stoner/noise band, named after the Kyuss song of the same name.

Also a kids lower-rider style big wheel toy vehicle from back in the 70s and 80s...
with stick shift controls for doing killer 10 foot power slides on asphalt. Yes!
(Man's Ruin / Diwphalanx - 1998/2003)

CLEAN GIRLS - DESPITE YOU (2015)

Clean Girls are from Brooklyn, NY and from what I can tell there is only 1 'girl' in the band.
There is a 'Chris', but without seeing photos, it could go either way I guess.
And this is also, by no means...clean... whatsoever.

So this is their 8-song debut LP. They have 2 other EPs before this.
If you like your punk rock thick, loud, distorted and chaotic...you'll be into this.
Drunkdriver meets His Hero is Gone meets Clockcleaner meets old Fucked Up.

Good heavy, goth-noise to keep this interesting.

Industrial parts mixed in as well.
Birthday Party meets Killing Joke meets Swans meets Hawkwind.
Get yer eyeliner, cuz this is good 'n dark.

DIRT QUEEN - 4 SONG CASSETTE (2014)

Good stuff from Dirt Queen outta Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
This is a 4 song, self released cassette, which sounds great.
Heavy noise rawk in the vein of Fight Amp, Doomriders, Young Widows, Kowloon Walled City.
Looking forward to more from these dudes.

MYSELF - HARO! (2011)

Myself are from France, and they play a noisy jazzcore type thing.
Rhythmic sounds with sax, synth, electronic looping and occasional vocal spewing to bring forth an impressive display of wildly erratic aggressive sounds.
This is definitely something that coulda been on Skin Graft methinks. Good shit.

MENFOLK - COLOSSUS (2005)

This isn't your everyday, run of the mill Shellac worship going on.
No sirree, this is some top choice, prime, grade A, Shellac worship...
coming at ya with a whollop from Menfolk, outta Copenhagen, Denmark.

If you dig your off-kiltered, buzzing and razor sharp noise rock, sounding like...well...Shellac...and New Brutalism, and Scul Hazzards, with some Fugazi and Hoover thrown in for good measure, then you'll smile yourself silly listening to this.

If there was an all-girl cover band, they should call themselves Womenfolk...har har.

KING SNAKE ROOST - FROM BARBARISM TO CHRISTIAN MANHOOD (1987)

Need some more classic boozy, bluesy, dirge rock up in these parts from King Snake Roost.
This is their first full length, originally on Aberrant, and later picked up by the fine folks at Amrep.
This album will be the perfect soundtrack to your night of debauchery you have ahead of you.
It's ok. We're all friends here. Your secrets are safe with us.

TONGUE PARTY - TONGUE PARTY (2015)

Cool band from Minneapolis, MN called Tongue Party.
They definitely have the local influence creepin' in, probably from drinking the same booze.
Sounds like a mix of Hammerhead, Gay Witch Abortion and The Blind Shake.
Fuzzy and rockin' good schtuff.

GREAT FALLS / THOU (SHELLAC COVERS) SPLIT 7" (2015)

2 bands trying their hand at Shellac covers.
Great Falls does 'Wingwalker'. Thou does 'Prayer to God'.
I'm not always a big fan of these types of covers.
Great Falls version is decent.
I think the Thou version is terrible. But I'm not into that kinda stuff.
But you may be, so who am I to tell whats good or bad. It's like...your opinion maaaan.

SHIT HAPPINESS - CHICKEN MOLE AND THE WASP (2014)

First off I'll apologize for the title translation for this EP if its wrong. I can't read or write Russian?...so this is what the google machine told me. I kinda laughed when I saw it, but its kinda cool regardless. Lemme know if you know any different.

So on to the tunes, shall we?...Shit Happiness have a few releases out, this is their newest 4-song EP.
Thick and ugly, heavy molasses sauce, sludge rock in the vein of Unsane, Glazed Baby, and Fight Amputation, with some Helmet riffs mashed in. Great for blasting loud in your car while stuck in traffic for all around to hear.
