MARKOV - THIS QUIET (2010)
"With knife fight guitars and pummeling rhythms, Markov sounds like Hot Snakes shaking off a nasty hangover on the front steps of the Dischord house. These Austin underground vets combine early 90s hardcore with noisy art rock incorporating influences like Refused, Les Savy Fav, the Bronx and Drive like Jehu." -Markov

JACK BUCK - SOFT 7" & UGLY 7" (2011/2013)
I happen to know that the name Jack Buck comes from a famous St. Louis Cardinals announcer who was known for his dramatic play-by-play calls from the 50's through the 90's. Now you know as well.
Wow. More baseball and noise rock references going on here.
So the music...kick ass St. Louis, MO (duh) noise rock (saw that coming too eh?), with aspects of Shellac, Hawks, Whores, and Helmet (neat). 2 singles here worth your attention, and awesome packaging on these limited do-hickeys as well. That's a Winner!!

THE THROWN UPS - EAT MY DUMP 7" (1988)
The Thrown Ups were Ed Fotheringham which you've seen his artwork on tons of records. Steve Turner and Mark Arm from Green River, Mudhoney, and a slew of others, and band founder John Leighton Beezer. This was their 3rd 7" on Amrep. Sloppy, ugly and awesome. Just to ruin your day.

KATASTROPHY WIFE - ALL KNEEL (2003)
This is super hottie Kat Bjelland, singer/guitaristist from the rockin' Babes In Toyland and one of her post band after 'Babes', Katastrophy Wife.
They've kinda flown under the radar, with a bunch of stuff in the past 10 years or so.
This album was originally released in 2003, but 2014 finally gives us a proper reissue on Record Store Day.
Woo hoo! If you're into Babes in Toyland, Mudhoney, Nirvana, 90s grunge, flannels, you'll be wanting this.

SOKEA PISTE – AJATUS KARKAA (2011)
Glad I don't have to pronounce this one. Both the band name and title... Damaged, dark & noisy punk cacophony from Finland. Oddly falling somewhere between Steel Pole Bath Tub, No Hope For The Kids & Mission Of Burma. - PeterWalkee

QUITTERS CLUB - QUITTERS CLUB (1995)
Quitters Club was some heavy duty noise rock action from Kansas City that shoves you to the ground and pummels you into a steaming pile. Short lived, they only released this album and a split 7" with Johnboy. This is chunky and heavy like your high school ex. For fans Cows, Unsane, Glazed Baby, Cherubs, chunky sauce on your meat pile.
(Imminent Rock - 1995)

ANIMAL LOVER - GUILT (2014)
Brand, spanking new 6 song EP thingy from Animal Lover, a 3 piece outta Minneapolis MN. This chunked-out, buzzsaw geetar, chaotic rock of the mangled and noisy kind, will have you shakin' your hips, while smacking you over your noggin with sledgehammer at the same time. If you mixed Hammerhead, Austerity Program, Big Black, Blacklisters, Crain, urine and bleach, you'd have some toxic good fun.
This release is on Learning Curve records, so you know its good! They've had some amazing bands on their roster lately, and adding this to their cleanup hitter spot should drive in some go ahead runs. Yes I made a baseball reference on a noise rock blog, what of it? Check out their last release as well right here. Good shit.

HIVE BENT - DYATLOV (2014)
Pretty killer, punch-to-your-mouth 2 piece noise-rock gang from Baltimore, MD who play a loud, cacophonous, highly erratic blend of noise and melody. I guess there's always the similar sound comparison you get with a 2 piece...a lil godheadSilo, a lil Dead, a lil Lighting Bolt, a lil Gay Witch Abortion. But thats pretty awesome company to be in.
This stuff is going great with my daily pots of coffee!! Thanks to friends over at The Elementary Revolt

BIG DAMN CRAZY WEIGHT - MIGHT AS WELL EP (1992)
This could be considered more grunge-y than noise rock, only cuz of the time era. And I always thought they had one of the cooler band names around.
Way back when Sub Pop and Amrep had bands that played together after school in that sketchy park that everyone said to stay away from because there were dirty needles and bullet shells found scattered around.
This quartet was one of those bands that some overlap into the noise arena, and I'm surprised they didn't make it on to a Dope Guns comp at some point. They only had a handful of singles and comp songs, and coulda, shoulda, been bigger. Damnit.
(Sub Pop - 1992)

PLUG - BACK ON THE SKULL (2013)
So when I first saw this album cover, it made me think of early 90's heavy/industrial/noise type stuff. And it's that far off, sans the industrial aspect. And available on cassette too, so there's that.
This 5-piece from San Antonio, Tejas, recall the early sounds of Helmet, Tad, Melvins, and Unsane, with an updated style similar to Whores. This is their debut which they blast out plenty of originals along with a Discharge and a Fang cover. They also have a new 2 song EP on their Bandcamp, which is more southern rock/punk. Its ok...but I prefer this record!

SLUG - SWINGERS (1992)
More pummeling noise rock goodness from Slug for ya, as well as fulfilling requests.
This was originally a 10" and a CD release.
Yes, we do requests, birthday parties, bar mitzfahs.... No Skynyrd covers though... unless there's enough cash involved. Cha-ching!

SILENT FRONT - TRUST (2014)
3 piece hoodlums from London, United Kingdom, Silent Front is anything but. Surprising to me they've been around a while...since the 90s. So their sound isn't borrowed, but more so continuing and carried on.
They fling noisy-rawk with some mathy parts at you, like monkeys flinging poo, with unhinged, frenzied and angular style similar to Drive Like Jehu, Shellac, Future of the Left and even some Hoover parts mixed in. Damn, I need a change of clothes.

SLUG - HAMBONE CITY / KING OF GHOSTS EP (1993)
Solid early 90's noise rock from Los Angle-ees, Ca. 2 song single here, Slug had a couple albums, one of which you can get here, and a handful of singles. If you dig Cherubs, Unsane, Jesus Lizard, Cows, godheadsilo, then you'll be happy with this acquisition.

THE DEVIL - THE DEVIL (2013)
3 piece from the London, UK area. They have some Shellac-ery style, some Killdozer-y style, and some Mule-ry style, The Devil enjoy playing and recording music, but they also have external hobbies like playing in Country Teasers (Fat Possum, In The Red), Nought (Shifty Disco) and The Rebel.

NICE HOOVES - NICE HOOVES (2013)
These guys don't really make the usual 'noise-rock' ruckus that makes up the majority of this blog, but they're still ripping, heavy, and sludge punk enough stuff that they deserve mention. And don't let that new-age looking album cover sway you away either.
A fiver outta Detroit who kick out the jams (ha) in a pounding, crushing, booze fueled and sore neck from head-bangin' kind of way. If Coliseum, Sweet Cobra, Akimbo, and/or Doomriders are your thing, then these guys are right in your wheelhouse. Music to trash your buddy's house to. Wheee!
(No Rest Until Ruin - 2013)

LOVE 666 - LOVE 666 (1994)
Ahhh. Good 'ol classic 90s noise rock. This was Love 666's first release before putting out a coupla albums and a single on Amrep.
This stuff will make you wanna get hopped up on hooch and ride a motorcycle naked, blindfolded and on fire through a dark backwoods field while people hurl Molotov Cocktails and fire paintball guns at your ass. Good times!!

EX WIVES - HOORS (2014)
Where the Hell did April go? Damn. Ok so the first release of May goes a little something like this:
I really like these here guys, Ex Wives and have mentioned them before here. This was a band submission of sorts...was contacted by them about this shiny, super sexy, spanking new release on cassette. They also have a split record in the works and hopefully... fingers crossed... an album as well.
If you dig Shellac, Scul Hazzards, Big'N, and most of the Albini library, you'll need plastic surgery to remove your goddamn smile from this.
(Release Number Three / Edition of 69 - 2014)
